Preparing for IB Diploma
As
you well know, the IB Diploma is a very
rigorous program. Here’s your chance to
get a head start by enrolling on one or
more of the Pre-DP courses. Dates for
the courses are as follows:
This summer school course will teach
you how to get organized and work
efficiently during the IB Diploma
program. The first section focuses on
skills such as listening, note-taking
and reading efficiently as well as
referencing consistently and correctly.
The second section's emphasis is on
producing a clearly defined thesis
statement which will then culminate in
a research project using the skills
listed. You will prepare a presentation
and examine different styles of IB
essays.
Pre-IBDP
Economics
IBDP
Economics is a fascinating and
challenging subject. What better way to
make an easier transition to the course
than to learn some basic Economics
concepts, theories, and skills first!
Gain an understanding of the course
structure, get hooked on graphing and
get exposed to economics analysis so
that you are better prepared and can
really enjoy and do well in IBDP
Economics.
Pre-IBDP
Business
Management
Business
and Management is a rigorous and
dynamic discipline that examines
business decision-making and how this
impacts on internal and external
environments. By taking Pre-IBDP
Business and Management, you will gain
an introductory understanding of
business theory and begin to apply
business principles, practices and
skills.
Pre-IBDP Sciences
(Biology/Chemistry/Physics)
All
IB Diploma students must take at least
one science. The summer school class
offers a combination of Biology,
Chemistry & Physics. Most students
will be familiar with the pre-requisite
content for these DP courses, and so
this summer school course does not
intend to re-teach this content.
Rather, the course offers an
introduction to the principles of
scientific study at DP level, and
develops the student’s ability to
analyze, evaluate, and synthesize
scientific information. There will be a
strong focus on Group 4 practical
skills and the personal skills required
in the compulsory interdisciplinary
Group 4 project.
Pre-IBDP
A1 Languages
All
IB Diploma students must take an A1
Language. The Language A1 approach may
be very different to the approach taken
by Grade 9/10 literature courses, such
as IGCSE, CBSE, ‘O’ Level etc. Language
A1 requires an in depth deconstruction
of literature into its language, style,
structure and achievements. Students
demonstrate their knowledge of
literature through a comparative essay,
two orals and examinations which
include unseen commentaries and
literature questions on specific
genres. Students in the pre-IB course
will engage in a group project which
will stimulate these areas of the study
of literature and which will require
co-operative learning, close textural
study, individual critical writing and
oral presentation.
Pre-IBDP
Theory of
Knowledge
A
compulsory part of the IB Diploma. This
course will introduce you to the main
themes in the Theory of Knowledge
course. You will be encouraged to
develop a critical capacity to evaluate
beliefs and knowledge claims. You will
also be encouraged to examine your own
ideas critically as well as those of
others, in a tolerant and understanding
manner. Most students will find Theory
of Knowledge a challenging course, and
the Pre-IBDP course is a solid
introduction to the approaches to
learning you will need to develop to be
successful.
Mid-IBDP
Summer Support
This
course is for students who have
completed the first year of the IB
Diploma program and want to be better
prepared for their second year. The
course will help students focus on key
assessed components of the DP such as
the extended essay, internal assessment
and coursework, all under the
supervision of an IB teacher.
Introduction to the DP &
Supporting your
child
Parental
support is often a key factor in a
student’s success on the IBDP. Learn
how the DP is organised, and the stress
points your child will face during
these important two years.
This is a half day course and will run
on the afternoon of
29th
July. To register for this course
please contact the summer school
coordinator directly at
